Constanza Acevedo, a first-year athlete from Colina, Chile, was named Ivy League Athlete of the Week for her performance with the Yale women’s track and field team, according to a March 24 announcement.
Acevedo received this recognition after breaking Yale’s school record in the javelin throw during the Black and Gold Challenge at the University of Central Florida. Her throw measured 45.92 meters and earned her third place in the event behind Iowa’s Lizzy Korczak (52.06 meters) and Michigan’s Emma Yungeberg (48.12 meters), both recognized as All-Americans.
The new mark surpasses Yale’s previous post-1999 javelin record of 41.61 meters set by Natasha Bloom in 1999. The all-time pre-1999 school record remains at 47.17 meters, achieved by Jamie Morris in 1988. NCAA javelin records prior to 1999 were generally longer due to a redesign of the implement mandated by what is now World Athletics.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to compete next at both the Raleigh Relays and UMass Flagship First meets later this week.
