On May 1, 2025, Rosa DeLauro highlighted the significance of Mental Health Awareness Month, bringing attention to the resources available for mental health support. She mentioned the establishment of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in 2022, emphasizing its importance to provide support to Americans who need it, stating “May is Mental Health Awareness Month. You are not alone, help is here.” She further underlined the need for continuous community support.
Later on the same day, DeLauro expressed concern over proposed staffing cuts by DOGE at the Veterans Affairs. She criticized DOGE’s plan to dismiss 80,000 personnel and highlighted the potential impacts, saying, “DOGE plans to fire 80,000 people from the VA, and has already fired 2,400.” DeLauro warned about longer wait times and a decline in available services, pointing out the possible consequences on veterans’ lives.
In another post on the evening of May 1, 2025, DeLauro expressed gratitude for being awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic as Commendatore by Ambassador @MAZappia. She stated, “Thank you, Ambassador @MAZappia, for awarding me with the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic as Commendatore.” She acknowledged the personal significance of the award as a daughter of Italian immigrants and shared her gratitude for the recognition with her fellow Italian Americans.
