FOIA Request to Southern Connecticut State University Regarding Chinese National Students on June 4, 2025.

As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability in local governmental affairs, SC Connecticut News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Southern Connecticut State University. This request seeks comprehensive data concerning Chinese National students enrolled at the university.

The request specifically asks for documents or lists detailing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, including their respective departments of study. If such information is protected, we have requested a total count of these students broken down by department. Additionally, we seek information on scholarships awarded to these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship. Particular attention is given to any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.

Furthermore, we have requested any policies or procedures that outline how the university monitors its students, including those who are Chinese Nationals, to safeguard intellectual property and other confidential information.

This request aligns with our role as media professionals dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency. We believe that access to this information is crucial for informing the public and maintaining oversight over educational practices involving international students.

We are pursuing this inquiry in collaboration with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that supports media companies and advocacy groups in investigating government actions through Freedom of Information laws. Our aim is to shed light on these matters and contribute to an informed electorate.
