Senior Pablo Lacayo continued to lead the Sacred Heart University men’s golf team, which moved up to 11th place on the team leaderboard at the Golfweek/Stifel Spring Challenge, according to an April 7 update. The tournament is being held at True Blue Golf Club in Pawley’s Island, South Carolina.
Lacayo posted a two-under-par round of 70, keeping him tied for medalist honors with a total score of 139, five under par. He recorded three birdies and only one bogey during his round and now has eight birdies in the event.
The Sacred Heart team has a combined score of 589 after rounds of 300 and 289. The Pioneers are three strokes behind Evansville, which is in tenth place with a score of ten over par. UAB increased its lead over the field by five strokes at fifteen under par.
Mike Rothberg made significant progress for Sacred Heart by climbing twenty-four spots on the leaderboard into a tie for forty-seventh place with a combined score of four over par (148). Rothberg matched Lacayo’s round with his own two-under-par performance that included four birdies.
Ronan Mooney improved to tie for sixty-fifth after shooting an even-par seventy-two, bringing his total to six over par (150) through two rounds. Quin Adams and Sho Suzuki are both tied for eighty-fifth place with scores of thirteen over par (157).
The third and final round of the Golfweek/Stifel Spring Challenge is scheduled to take place tomorrow morning.
