The Maine Black Bears, featuring former West Haven High School standout Gianni Gambardella, dropped a 7-4 decision to the Winthrop Eagles in their NCAA Division I baseball game Friday, Feb. 27, at 3 p.m.

The matchup was held at Winthrop Ballpark and marked the teams’ first meeting of the season.

In the contest, Gambardella pitched 5.1 innings, allowing six earned runs with three walks and five strikeouts.

The Black Bears are set to face the Eagles again at Winthrop Ballpark on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 2 p.m.
