Quinnipiac University’s men’s lacrosse team will travel to Fairfield, Connecticut, to play against Sacred Heart University on April 4. The matchup marks Quinnipiac’s fifth Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) contest of the season.
This game is significant as Sacred Heart enters with a perfect record of 10-0 overall and 4-0 in MAAC play. Quinnipiac, currently holding a record of 2-8 overall and 1-3 in the conference, will look to challenge one of the top teams in the league.
Quinnipiac leads the MAAC and ranks second nationally in man-up offense with a conversion rate of nearly 59 percent, having scored on ten out of seventeen opportunities this season. The Bobcats are coming off a close loss to Marist, where Nate Watson led with three goals and an assist while Nick Meoni also contributed three goals. Goalie Evan Miner made twelve saves during that match.
Sacred Heart has shown depth this season with nine players reaching double-digit point totals. Matt Pepe leads the Pioneers with thirty-five points from twenty-one goals and fourteen assists. In goal, Craig Daria remains undefeated at ten wins without a loss, recording one hundred thirty-one saves while allowing ninety-eight goals so far.
Historically since 2000, Quinnipiac has won five times against Sacred Heart but has lost their last five meetings. Head Coach Mason Poli is now in his twelfth year on staff and seventh as head coach for Quinnipiac. Last year under Poli’s leadership, the team reached the semifinals of the MAAC Tournament after defeating Canisius in postseason play.
Looking ahead, both teams will use this contest as an opportunity to solidify their positions within conference standings as they approach key games later in the spring.
