The Quinnipiac softball team swept a doubleheader against Merrimack on March 24, extending its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) win streak to six games.
The sweep is significant as it boosts the Bobcats’ conference record to 10-1 and continues their momentum in league play. The team’s ability to rally from behind in the second game highlights their resilience this season.
In the first game, Quinnipiac took an early lead with RBI singles from Riley Potter and Aryn Bombery. After Merrimack tied the game in the seventh inning, Mary Fogg singled in extra innings before Sofia Vega delivered a walk-off triple for a 3-2 victory. Shannon Kendall earned her tenth win of the year, pitching her eighth complete game while allowing two runs on six hits and striking out three.
The second game saw Merrimack take a quick 4-0 lead before Quinnipiac responded with runs from Natalia Apatiga’s sacrifice fly and Vega’s two-run single. Despite trailing for much of the contest, the Bobcats mounted a five-run comeback in the fifth inning with key hits from Kennedy Demott, Potter, and Noelle Reid. Potter added insurance with a two-run double in the sixth as Quinnipiac secured an 11-7 win. Kendall picked up her eleventh victory of the season by pitching three scoreless innings in relief.
Individual performances stood out throughout both games: Vega went four-for-five at bat with three RBI; Fogg had five hits over seven at-bats; Demott contributed four hits; Potter drove in four runs; Bombery continued her strong hitting form; and Ava Tabangcura scored twice. Kendall finished with two wins on the day across eleven innings pitched.
With these victories, Quinnipiac maintains strong positioning within conference standings as they look ahead to future matchups.
