Quinnipiac softball sweeps Saint Peter’s across three-game weekend series

The Quinnipiac University softball team secured a three-game sweep over Saint Peter’s this weekend in Jersey City, New Jersey. The Bobcats won both games on Sunday, finishing the series with scores of 10-2 and 8-0.

In the first game, Quinnipiac scored six runs in the second inning. Kinsley Cox began the rally with an RBI double after Ally Hochstadter’s leadoff single. Noelle Reid added an RBI single, and a fielding error by Saint Peter’s allowed another run. Mary Fogg and Sofia Vega contributed productive groundouts before Riley Potter hit an RBI double to give Quinnipiac a 6-0 lead.

Saint Peter’s responded with a solo home run in their half of the second inning. Quinnipiac extended its lead in the fourth when Vega doubled and later scored on a wild pitch. Both Vega and Hochstadter hit solo home runs in the sixth inning. Shannon Kendall earned her fifth win of the season by pitching 4.1 innings and allowing one run on three hits, while Jasmine Kline finished the game without allowing any hits.

In game two, Riley Potter hit a grand slam in the first inning to put Quinnipiac ahead 4-0. Noelle Reid followed with an RBI double to extend the lead further. Aryn Bombery added a two-run home run in the fifth inning, and Madison Waltke drove in another run in the sixth as Quinnipiac won by run-rule.

Laney Adie pitched her first career complete game shutout for her second win of the season, giving up four hits and striking out three batters.

Following these victories, Quinnipiac improved its record to 7-5 for the season.

Several players had notable performances during Sunday’s games:
– In game one, Sofia Vega, Ally Hochstadter, and Kinsley Cox each recorded multiple hits.
– Seven different Bobcats registered at least one hit.
– Four players stole bases.
– In game two, Potter went 1-for-3 with a grand slam; Reid had two doubles; Bombery drove in two runs with her home run; seven Bobcats had hits; Cox stole another base; Adie pitched all six innings for her first complete game.

Over the entire weekend series against Saint Peter’s, Quinnipiac outscored their opponent 23-6. Key contributors included Sofia Vega (5-for-10 with a double, home run, two RBIs), Kinsley Cox (3-for-9 with an RBI double), Noelle Reid (3-for-9 with two doubles), and Riley Potter (3-for-10 including a grand slam). The pitching staff combined for ten strikeouts across all games.

Quinnipiac will next play Boston University on March 11 before traveling to Iona for more games between March 14–15.
