The Quinnipiac softball team will travel to Fairfield for a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) games on April 7. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. at Alumni Softball Field in Fairfield, Connecticut.
This matchup is important as both teams are competing for position within the MAAC standings. Quinnipiac recently secured its fifth MAAC series win against Manhattan, while Fairfield enters the game with a record of 13-17 overall and 6-4 in conference play.
Fairfield’s Anna Paravati leads her team with 27 hits, five doubles, and 21 runs batted in this season, while Ava Armuth has started all games and has a team-high thirteen stolen bases. Pitcher Alyssa Weinberg has thrown eight complete games with an earned run average of 3.51 over more than eighty-five innings.
For Quinnipiac, Kennedy DeMott was key in the recent series win over Manhattan, going four-for-eight at bat with two doubles, one home run, seven RBI and three runs scored. DeMott currently leads the Bobcats in doubles (eight), home runs (four), and RBI (twenty-five). Sofia Vega has also been productive offensively with hits in twelve of her last fourteen games and leading the team with a .429 batting average.
Mary Fogg continues her strong performance from last season when she led the Bobcats in several categories and was named to both All-MAAC Second Team and Preseason All-MAAC Team for this year. Head Coach Hillary Smith said seniors Natalia Apatiga, Kennedy DeMott, and Sofia Vega have been named captains for the current season.
Quinnipiac returns sixteen players from last year’s roster after finishing their best MAAC record in eight seasons at fourteen wins out of twenty-five conference games.
