The Quinnipiac women’s golf team finished the first day of the Georgia State Invitational on Mar. 30 in second place out of 14 teams, trailing host Georgia State by three strokes.
This performance positions Quinnipiac as a strong contender heading into the final round, with several players delivering notable individual scores.
Sophia Fujita led the Bobcats after two rounds, shooting a 71 (-1) in both rounds for a total score of 142 (-2). Fujita is tied for fifth place individually and is four strokes behind the tournament leader. Samantha Galantini also had a strong showing, ending the day in tenth place overall. Galantini posted one of the best rounds in the field with a first-round score of 70 (-2), followed by a second-round score of 75 (+3), totaling 145 (+1).
Vaidehi Shah finished day one tied for twenty-fifth with a two-round total of 149 (+5), while Marisa Flores was just one stroke back at 150 (+6) after shooting her best round (74, +2) to start the tournament. Natalie Spiska completed her two rounds with a total score of 161 (+17). Tekla Fine-Lease competed as an individual and posted a combined score of 164 (+20).
Fujita’s consistent play marked her sixth round at par or better this season. Galantini matched that mark, tying for most on the team this year. Shah improved over her two rounds, finishing strong with her best effort in round two.
The Bobcats will look to close out their run at the invitational during Tuesday’s final round.
