Quinnipiac women’s lacrosse defeats Manhattan with strong second half performance

Quinnipiac women’s lacrosse defeated Manhattan by a score of 17-9 on Mar. 28, powered by a strong second half at QU Lacrosse Stadium. The Bobcats improved their record to 6-5 for the season.

The win is significant as it marks Quinnipiac’s continued success in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and strengthens their position in league play.

Sophomore Emma Miller-Ayala led Quinnipiac with five goals, three ground balls, and three draw controls. Mia Delmond and Julia Givens each contributed four goals and one assist, while Cate Bendowski provided a team-high four assists among her five points. The Bobcats held an 8-7 lead at halftime before outscoring Manhattan 4-1 in the third quarter and 5-1 in the fourth.

Miller-Ayala reached new season highs with her five-goal performance and now has 30 points this year. Givens leads the team with 27 goals for the season after her four-goal outing, while Delmond follows closely with 26 goals. Bendowski remains atop the team leaderboard in both assists (29) and total points (46).

In goal, senior Bridget Clarke started for Quinnipiac making two saves in the first quarter. Shannon Alden made four saves in relief, including key stops during the fourth quarter to secure the victory. Anna Givens contributed defensively with three caused turnovers and added one goal and one assist offensively.

With this result, Quinnipiac holds a record of 12 wins to three losses against Manhattan since 2000, having won three of their last four meetings. The Bobcats will next face Iona on Wednesday, April 1 as they continue their league schedule.
