Rosa DeLauro, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 3rd district since 1991, addressed constituents on October 8, 2025, via a series of social media posts regarding the ongoing government shutdown and issues related to pay equity and healthcare.
In a post from October 8, DeLauro stated: “CT is stepping up to continue providing healthy food & formula for over 52,000 women, infants, & children during this Republican-led shutdown. Republicans must come to the table to stop this devastation & Trump must commit to reimburse states like CT who are covering the cost.” She highlighted efforts by Connecticut to support vulnerable populations during the federal government shutdown.
Later that day, DeLauro recognized Latina Equal Pay Day with another message: “Today is Latina Equal Pay Day! On average, Latinas are paid 54 cents to every dollar paid to white, non-Hispanic men. We celebrate the resilience of Latinas in America but we must also pass the Paycheck Fairness Act and end this disparity! #LatinaEqualpay #Trabajadoras”
DeLauro also invited residents to participate in a Tele-Town Hall focused on health care cuts amid the government shutdown. She wrote: “Join me TODAY for a Tele-Town Hall to discuss health care cuts amid the government shutdown! When: Oct. 8 @ 5:30 pm How:Dial in (855) 920-0553”
DeLauro has represented Connecticut’s 3rd District since replacing Bruce Morrison in Congress in 1991. Born in New Haven in 1943 and currently residing there at age 80, she graduated from Marymount College, Tarrytown with a BA in 1964.
