Rosa DeLauro, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 3rd district since 1991, posted a series of messages on social media addressing recent tragedies and commemorations in December 2025.
On December 14, DeLauro reflected on the anniversary of the Sandy Hook tragedy and responded to recent violence at Brown University. She wrote, “14 years after Sandy Hook, we are mourning not just in Newtown, but in Providence, following the deaths of 2 students at Brown. This was the 389th mass shooting of 2025. I am tired and heartbroken. My thoughts are with the families, but my anger is with leaders who refuse to act.”
Later that evening, she extended holiday greetings to her constituents and others celebrating Hanukkah: “Happy Chanukah to everyone celebrating in Connecticut and around the world! May these next eight nights be filled with peace, light, and joy. Chag Sameach!” (December 14).
On December 15, DeLauro addressed an incident abroad: “I am horrified by the vile antisemitic terror attack in Australia. This attack on a Hannukah market shows the consequences of spreading fear and hatred. We must seek justice for those killed and do our part to stop the scourge of antisemitism.”
DeLauro has represented Connecticut’s 3rd District for over three decades after succeeding Bruce Morrison in Congress. Born in New Haven in 1943, she continues to reside there at age 80. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Marymount College in Tarrytown.
