Rosa DeLauro, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 3rd district since 1991, has recently used her social media platform to comment on veterans’ affairs and related policy decisions. Her recent posts address the impact of federal actions on veterans and recognize individual service members for their contributions.
On July 11, 2025, DeLauro criticized President Trump’s handling of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), stating: “President Trump says he’s protecting veterans, but he just gutted the VA. 30,000 jobs slashed. Understaffing made worse. Veterans left behind. This isn’t draining the swamp. It’s abandoning our heroes.”
Later that day, she shared her experience honoring two Vietnam veterans: “Today, I had the privilege of honoring two remarkable Vietnam veterans, Bonnie Callan and Donna Dzubin, for their service. Their stories serve as a reminder of why we must continue to honor all who serve, not just with words but with lasting recognition and respect.”
On July 13, 2025, DeLauro questioned Republican commitments to supporting veterans in light of recent staffing cuts at the VA: “What happened to the promises Republicans made to support veterans? Nothing but empty words. Veterans are being thrown under the bus to pay for billionaire tax cuts. Firing thousands of VA staffers means longer waits and worse care for those who sacrificed for our country.”
DeLauro was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1943 and continues to reside there at age 80. She graduated from Marymount College in Tarrytown with a BA in 1964.
