Rosa DeLauro, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 3rd district since 1991, recently shared her perspectives on disaster relief and agricultural support through a series of tweets. Her comments reflect ongoing legislative discussions and actions aimed at supporting farmers and ensuring effective disaster management.
On May 6, 2025, DeLauro criticized Kristi Noem and former President Trump for their approach to FEMA. She stated that “Kristi Noem tried to dodge accountability for her & President Trump’s reckless plan to shut down FEMA.” DeLauro emphasized that there was no partisan discrimination involved, describing the situation as “just another pretend excuse to end disaster relief when it’s needed most.”
The following day, on May 7, 2025, she expressed gratitude towards an individual named Will for his advocacy efforts on behalf of small farmers. In her tweet, she mentioned “Thank you, Will, for championing the cause of small farmers nationwide! Your advocacy inspired my Farm Recovery & Support Block Grant to help farmers bounce back from local disasters.” She called upon the administration to ensure these funds are distributed swiftly and without obstacles.
Later that day, DeLauro highlighted the importance of providing resources to rural communities in America. She invited others to join her in reviewing the USDA’s budget by stating “Our farmers, ranchers, and rural communities feed America. We must provide these communities with the resources to succeed.”
Rosa DeLauro has been actively serving in Congress since replacing Bruce Morrison in 1991. Born in New Haven in 1943 and currently residing there at age 80, she holds a BA from Marymount College.
