Rosa DeLauro, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 3rd district, recently took to social media to express her opposition to a full-year continuing resolution. Her tweets reflect concerns about political power dynamics and potential impacts on veterans and public services.
On March 8, 2025, DeLauro stated her firm opposition to the resolution, describing it as “a power grab for the White House” that enables figures like Elon Musk and former President Trump to exploit American resources. She criticized her Republican colleagues for granting “power to an unelected billionaire.” “I strongly oppose this full-year continuing resolution, which is a power grab for the White House and further allows unchecked billionaire Elon Musk and President Trump to steal from the American people.”
In another tweet posted on the same day, DeLauro highlighted specific consequences she attributes to Republican actions. She mentioned increased difficulty in accessing Social Security benefits, job losses among veterans with 6,000 already fired and plans for more cuts affecting 80,000 VA employees. Additionally, she noted closures of medical research labs while criticizing Republicans for providing financial support to Elon Musk. “They have made it harder to get Social Security benefits; fired 6,000 veterans and plan to make it harder for veterans by firing 80,000 VA employees; and shut down medical research labs.”
Later that day, DeLauro shared her insights after reviewing the bill text of the continuing resolution (CR). She pointed out that Republicans are planning significant budget cuts by eliminating funding for the Toxic Exposures Fund dedicated to assisting veterans affected by toxic substances like burn pits and Agent Orange. She emphasized that these cuts amounting to $23 billion contradict previous commitments made by Republicans themselves. “Reading the CR bill text now. Republicans are zeroing out the Toxic Exposures Fund (to care for veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances) on October 1.”
