Rosa DeLauro, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 3rd district since 1991, recently addressed several pressing issues through her social media platform. Her statements highlight concerns regarding public health and government accountability.
On May 14, 2025, DeLauro expressed concern over the resurgence of measles and the impact of halted life-saving research. She criticized Secretary Kennedy for dismissing staff who disagree with what she describes as “fake science.” DeLauro urged action by stating: “Measles is back. Life-saving research has been halted. Agencies are losing 1000s of public health experts.” She invited others to join her and the Appropriations Democrats in holding him accountable.
Later that day, DeLauro emphasized the importance of congressional authority over financial matters in response to actions by Secretary RFK Jr., asserting his constitutional duty to ensure funds continue to support researchers. She stated: “Secretary RFK Jr., unlike the President, knows where the power of the purse lies: with Congress.”
In another post on May 14, 2025, DeLauro acknowledged the service of U.S. Coast Guard personnel and mentioned a meeting with her colleagues from Appropriations Democrats and the Coast Guard to discuss future challenges. She affirmed their commitment by saying: “The women and men of the U.S. Coast Guard serve and defend our nation.”
Rosa DeLauro was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1943 and graduated from Marymount College in Tarrytown in 1964 with a Bachelor’s degree.
