Rosa DeLauro, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 3rd district since 1991, posted a series of tweets criticizing recent actions by the Trump administration and raising concerns about domestic economic policies.

On April 9, 2026, DeLauro questioned the use of foreign steel in construction at the White House: “I’ve fought for Make it in America my entire career. Buy American, hire American —that’s our standard. So why is foreign steel being used to build Trump’s ballroom at the White House? This is his ‘top priority’ and he cannot even prioritize American steel.”

The following day, she addressed changes to Social Security services: “First, the Trump admin hurt Social Security services by pushing out thousands of customer service personnel. Next, the admin will say it needs to slash your hard-earned benefits. We need to make more investments in Social Security—not gut it entirely!” (April 10, 2026).

Later on April 10, DeLauro commented on the impact of President Trump’s military decisions on consumer costs: “President Trump’s illegal war is increasing the cost of gas for everyone. At a time when hardworking Americans are already struggling to afford sky-high bills, it’s now even more expensive to fill up your car and heat your home — thanks to President Trump.”

DeLauro has represented her district since replacing Bruce Morrison in 1991 and has long advocated for policies supporting American industry and social programs. Born in New Haven in 1943, she continues to reside there today. She earned her BA from Marymount College in Tarrytown in 1964.
