Rosa DeLauro, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 3rd District since 1991, took to social media on April 29, 2025, to share several concerns related to the policies and actions of the Trump Administration. Her remarks covered issues such as civil rights, economic focus, and funding for medical research.
On the afternoon of April 29, DeLauro expressed her criticism of the Trump Administration’s stance on LGBTQI+ rights, stating “The Trump Administration refuses to protect the civil rights of LGBTQI+ Americans. It’s time to pass the Equality Act and ensure everyone—regardless of who they are or who they love—can live free from fear and discrimination.” DeLauro emphasized the importance of passing the Equality Act to protect these rights.
Later that evening, she commented on the economic policies pursued by President Trump, noting “President Trump has not been laser focused on the cost-of-living crisis. He promised to fight for the working-class but instead he has handed the government over to Elon Musk and his billionaire friends.” Her statement underscores her concern about the administration’s focus and who benefits from its economic decisions.
DeLauro also raised the alarm over the significant funding loss for medical research, revealing that “100 days and more than $1,000,000,000 in NIH grants canceled—grants that were set to fund vital research on Alzheimer’s, cancer, diabetes, and more. Research already conducted has been thrown out. But sure, this is supposed to benefit our hardworking communities…” The remark highlights the potential impact on scientific and medical advancements.
DeLauro, age 80, was born in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1943 and continues to reside there. She is an alumna of Marymount College, Tarrytown, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in 1964.
