Rosa DeLauro, a seasoned member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 3rd district since 1991, has recently shared multiple statements via Twitter regarding pressing social and political issues. Her observations cover a variety of topics, from maternal health disparities to national security concerns and the legacy of a major religious figure.

On April 19, 2025, DeLauro addressed persistent racial disparities in maternal health outcomes in the United States, noting, “In the United States, Black women are 3x more likely to die from pregnancy complications than white women — this is unacceptable.” She emphasized the necessity for congressional action to ensure equitable access to maternal health resources for Black mothers, aligning her statements with the observance of #BlackMaternalHealthWeek.

Two days later, on April 21, 2025, DeLauro criticized the Trump Administration’s handling of covert communications, stating “Every hidden Signal chat is another blow to American security by the Trump Administration.” She specifically called out Pete Hegseth, asserting “Pete Hegseth isn’t just reckless—he’s a risk.” She suggested that multiple incidents imply a pattern of cover-ups, reinforcing the demand for accountability.

Later the same day, DeLauro reflected on the contributions of Pope Francis to issues of social justice. Following his passing, she expressed, “Pope Francis reminded us of the rich history of the Catholic Church on social justice.” She acknowledged his calls for addressing injustice and inequality, contemplating on the lasting impact of his leadership and expressing her condolences to Catholics influenced by his example.

Rosa DeLauro, age 80, born and residing in New Haven, Connecticut, has a lengthy tenure in Congress, having succeeded Bruce Morrison. She completed her undergraduate education at Marymount College, Tarrytown, in 1964.
