Rosa DeLauro, a longstanding U.S. Congress member representing Connecticut’s 3rd district since 1991, recently shared her thoughts on various topics through a series of tweets. DeLauro, born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1943 and a graduate of Marymount College, has been an active voice in Congress for decades.
On June 18, 2025, Rosa DeLauro expressed her commitment to labor and workers’ rights by participating in discussions with Teamsters Local 433. She stated “For me, fighting for labor and workers’ rights is deeply personal.” and thanked the organization for including her in the conversation aimed at uplifting unions.
Later that day, DeLauro addressed issues concerning mental health care access for LGBTQI+ youth. In a tweet posted on June 18, she criticized the lack of available mental health services as “a glaring display of cruelty.” She highlighted that “50% of LGBTQI+ young people who wanted mental health care in 2023 were unable to get it.” DeLauro warned that this action could have severe consequences: “This action will cost lives.”
On June 19, DeLauro reflected on Juneteenth as a significant celebration marking the freedom of the last enslaved Black Americans. She emphasized the importance of recognizing this day despite the ongoing impact of slavery’s legacy. Her message was clear: “We carry the weight of slavery’s legacy every day. But today, we honor freedom.”
DeLauro has been an influential figure in American politics since replacing Bruce Morrison in Congress over three decades ago.
