Rosa DeLauro, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 3rd district since 1991, posted a series of messages on her social media accounts reflecting on her Italian American heritage and commenting on the ongoing government shutdown in October 2025.
On October 13, DeLauro shared her personal connection to Italian American heritage, stating, “For me, today has and always will be a day to celebrate the Italian American community and our ancestors’ contributions to our country. Every year, my mother and I laid the wreaths together in Wooster Square to celebrate, and I am thinking of her and our heritage today.”
The following day, DeLauro addressed the government shutdown, which had entered its second week. On October 14 she wrote, “2 weeks into the Republican government shutdown and they’re still nowhere to be found. Democrats are in D.C. ready to save healthcare and open the government–it’s time to get back to work.”
Later that day, DeLauro commented on the ongoing health care crisis and public discourse surrounding it, posting, “There’s a lot of information and disinformation out there about the health care crisis Americans face and the Republican shutdown – let’s clear some things up.”
DeLauro was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1943 and continues to reside there. She graduated from Marymount College, Tarrytown in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. DeLauro succeeded Bruce Morrison in Congress in 1991 and has been an active member since then.
