Rosa DeLauro, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 3rd district since 1991, has renewed her call for national paid family and medical leave in a series of posts on April 2, 2026.
In one post, DeLauro stated, “It is time for the U.S. Congress to send my FAMILY Act to the president’s desk so that all Americans can have access to paid family and medical leave.” She also addressed economic concerns, writing on the same day, “Americans are trapped in a cost-of-living crisis. When Democrats gain power, they respond. I applaud my friend & former colleague Governor of Virginia Abigal Spanberger, & the Democratic legislature for enacting a paid family & medical leave program.” In another post later that morning, she added a personal note: “fierce is fierce honey https://t.co/RQWDAKFWAB”
DeLauro’s advocacy comes as she continues her long tenure in Congress; she succeeded Bruce Morrison in 1991 and has represented New Haven and surrounding areas ever since. Born in New Haven in 1943 and an alumna of Marymount College (Tarrytown), DeLauro remains an active voice on issues affecting American families.
Her recent statements reflect ongoing efforts among some federal lawmakers to expand access to paid family and medical leave nationwide—a policy already enacted at the state level by Virginia under Governor Abigail Spanberger and its Democratic legislature.
