Rosa DeLauro, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 3rd district since 1991, posted a series of statements on September 17, 2025, highlighting the need for paid leave in the United States and expressing concerns about public health.
In her first post at 14:32 UTC, DeLauro addressed economic pressures on American families and advocated for legislative action: “Today, working families are stretched to the breaking point in this cost-of-living crisis, yet the U.S. remains the only industrialized nation without paid leave. The FAMILY Act is our next step forward.”
Later that day at 17:08 UTC, she cited polling data to emphasize bipartisan support for paid leave: “Americans know the way forward: 80% of swing-state voters support paid leave. Nearly 3/4 of independents and over 2/3 of Republicans agree. If paid leave is bipartisan to the public, it should be bipartisan in Congress. We must pass paid leave now.”
DeLauro also commented on public health leadership at 17:23 UTC, stating: “RFK Jr. is a danger to Americans’ health. He must be fired.”
DeLauro has been an advocate for family-focused policies throughout her tenure in Congress. She was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1943 and continues to reside there. DeLauro graduated from Marymount College, Tarrytown with a BA in 1964.
The issue of paid family leave has been debated extensively in recent years as the United States remains one of the few industrialized nations without a national policy guaranteeing such benefits.
