Sacred Heart women’s golf finishes third at Intercollegiate at Prospect Bay

The Sacred Heart University women’s golf team finished third at the Intercollegiate at Prospect Bay, which concluded on March 29 in Grasonville, Maryland.

The tournament saw Sacred Heart end with a combined score of 621 (+45) after rounds of 310 and 311. The team was tied for first place after the opening round but slipped to third as Dartmouth moved into second with a score of +33. Penn secured the win with a total score of +30. Sacred Heart outperformed Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponents Fairfield (+46), Niagara (+120), and Iona (+124).

First-year player Maegan Pungsuwan led the Pioneers, tying for eighth place overall. She posted scores of 78 (+6) in the first round and improved to a 76 (+4) in the final round for a total of 154 (+10). Nahia Paulerena and Maite Cantu both finished tied for twelfth with scores of 156 (+12). Cantu scored a 79 (+7) in the final round compared to Paulerena’s 81 (+9).

Garance Gueubel overtook teammate Jessie Burch by one stroke to finish tied for twenty-first after shooting a final-round score of 77 (+5), totaling 158 (+14). Burch ended up in twenty-fourth place following her final-round score of 79 (+7). Jade Haylock rounded out Sacred Heart’s competitors, finishing tied for fifty-seventh.

The team will have a brief break before participating in their next event, the Rutgers Invitational on April 11, which will be their last competition ahead of the MAAC Championship.
