Sacred Heart women’s swimming wins Gompei Invitational; sets new program marks

The Sacred Heart women’s swimming and diving team won the Gompei Invitational in Worcester, Massachusetts, finishing as meet champions after a strong performance on the final day. The team delivered several event victories and added new entries to their program record book.

Charlotte Kaduson led the distance swimmers by winning the 1650 Freestyle. Emma Davis placed third in the 100 Free, while Maddie Goret finished third in the 200 Back and recorded a time of 2:06.92, moving her to fifth all-time in that event for Sacred Heart.

In butterfly events, Sophia Velleco secured first place in the 200 Fly, with Abby Hernandez following in second. Velleco also achieved one of the top performances at the meet with a time of 52.00 in the 100 Free, which advanced her to third all-time in Sacred Heart’s record book.

Maggie Holland earned first place in the 50 Breaststroke. The competition ended with a victory for Sacred Heart in the 400 Freestyle Relay, as Velleco, Brooke Labarge, Holland, and Davis combined for a strong swim.

Sacred Heart concluded the invitational first among women’s teams with 3,450.5 points and placed fourth overall despite not fielding a men’s team.

The Pioneers’ next competition is scheduled for December 13 at the CSCAA National Open Water Championships in Florida.
