Matthew Horowitz Presenter at Northeast Surety and Fidelity Claims Conference

Neubert, Pepe & Monteith, P.C. (NPM) co-sponsored the 33rd annual  Northeast Surety and Fidelity Claims Conference held recently in  Atlantic City, New Jersey. The program offered intermediate and advanced  training in administering surety and fidelity claims and was certified  by state licensing agencies to afford continuing education credits for  attorneys and adjusters, including ethics and diversity credits. There  conference topics drew a large attendance, including over eighty surety  and fidelity claims professionals as well as claims representatives from  surety and fidelity carriers.

Matthew Horowitz from NPM moderated the joint surety and fidelity  sections of the program. The presentations addressed salvage issues,  such as funds tracing and the operative effect of letters of credits,  and ethics issues regarding diversity and inclusiveness goals in the  surety industry. As part of the surety program, Attorney Horowitz  presented a paper on the impact of a Chapter Eleven bankruptcy filing by  the surety’s principal on the surety’s indemnity rights against  individual indemnitors who had not filed for bankruptcy. In  collaboration with Douglas Wills, assistant vice president at Chubb,  Attorney Horowitz also authored and moderated a discussion of a surety  case study which focused on a complex performance bond fact pattern.
