The Yale baseball team defeated Iona 7-6 in extra innings on March 25, securing a non-conference road win. Junior Garrett Larsen bunted home Bryce Miller in the tenth inning to clinch the victory for the Bulldogs.

The game saw Yale improve its overall record to 10-8 and its non-conference mark to 9-6. Iona fell to a season record of 6-12. The match featured several notable performances from Yale players, including senior Davis Hanson, who went two-for-two at bat, reached base three times, and drove in two runs. First-year pitcher Nick West earned his first collegiate win by closing out the game with more than two scoreless innings.

The scoring began early for Yale as Bryce Miller led off with a single and was driven home by Kaiden Dossa’s triple. Larsen then singled up the middle to bring Dossa home, giving Yale an early lead. However, Iona responded in the second inning by scoring all six of its runs off six hits. Yale chipped away at that lead over subsequent innings: Hanson singled home Jack Dauer in the third; Dossa added another RBI single in the sixth; and Hanson bunted Dauer home again in the seventh.

Yale tied the game at six apiece when Brady Ruiz-Weiss grounded out to first base, allowing Chris DiPrima to score and send it into extra innings. In the tenth inning, Miller walked and stole both second and third bases before Larsen’s bunt secured his run for what proved to be the game-winning play.

Additional notes from the contest highlight that West pitched more than two hitless innings while striking out two batters. Alex Hwang started on the mound but allowed six earned runs before being relieved by Ethan Lewis, Brett Faccio, Matt Pearch, Tate Evans, and West—who combined for over eight scoreless innings from relief pitchers alone. Miller has now reached base safely in fifteen consecutive games while Larsen extended his own streak to fourteen games.

Looking ahead, Yale is scheduled to host Penn for a three-game series starting Saturday at George H.W. Bush ’48 Field.
