The Yale baseball team defeated the University of New Haven 20-0 on April 8 at George H.W. Bush ’48 Field. The game was called after the top of the seventh inning due to the run margin.
The result moves Yale to a season record of 17-9, while New Haven falls to 3-21 overall. The Bulldogs’ strong performance included their highest run total this season and marked their first matchup against New Haven since a win in 2002.
Junior Kaiden Dossa walked five times, scored four runs, and stole one base. Junior Garrett Larsen went three-for-four with four runs scored and three runs batted in. First-year player Jackson Hays drove in three runs and stole three bases. Six Bulldogs recorded multi-RBI games, and Yale drew a total of thirteen walks while five batters were hit by pitches.
Yale’s scoring began early with two runs in the first inning using small ball tactics, followed by additional runs across each subsequent inning through hits, walks, bunts, hit-by-pitches, and wild pitches. In pitching, Nick West started for Yale with three scoreless innings before being relieved by Levi Strahm, Alex Hwang, and Brett Faccio; together they secured a seven-inning shutout.
Ricky Nunez and Pablo Rodriguez made their collegiate debuts for Yale during this game; Rodriguez hit a triple in his first at-bat.
Looking ahead, Yale will host Harvard for a three-game series starting with a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday, April 11 at 11:30 a.m.
