A group of Yale men’s track and field distance runners competed on March 26 at the Raleigh Relays, participating in two events with six entries. The team was represented by athletes in both the 1500-meter and 5000-meter races.
The meet is significant as it draws dozens of schools from across the country, including several Ivy League rivals such as Brown, Columbia, Dartmouth, Harvard, and Penn. It offers an early-season opportunity for collegiate athletes to test themselves against a broad field.
Sophomore Seb Sutch led Yale in the 1500 meters by setting a personal-best time of 3:49.32. Michigan’s Trent McFarland won that event with a time of 3:35.80.
First-year Magnus Manley stood out in his first outdoor race for Yale by finishing the 5000 meters in 14:05.08, which places him fifth on Yale’s all-time list for that event. Senior Owen Karas competed in both races on Thursday; he finished the day with a time of 14:07.53 in the 5000 meters—less than two seconds off his outdoor personal record—and earlier ran a time of 3:52.41 in the 1500 meters.
While the Raleigh Relays span three days, only Thursday featured competition from Bulldog men this year.
Looking ahead, Yale’s men’s track and field team is scheduled to compete next at the UMass Flagship Opener on Saturday.
