The Yale men’s lacrosse team announced on Apr. 13 that it will play two non-conference games this week, traveling to face Hofstra on Tuesday, Apr. 14, before hosting UAlbany for Senior Day on Saturday, Apr. 18.
These matchups come as the Bulldogs are riding momentum from a recent win over No. 5 Harvard, where Cole Cashion scored five goals and helped secure a 15-9 victory at Reese Stadium. This marked Yale’s third win against a ranked opponent this season and its second top-10 victory in three games.
The Bulldogs have shown strong performances recently with Luke Pascal recording a hat trick and William Sheehan along with Dylan Blekicki each scoring twice in their last outing. Connor Gately contributed with one goal and two assists while Nick Wehmeyer added both a goal and success at faceoffs, winning 15 of 23 attempts.
Yale currently ranks third nationally in man-up offense percentage (.579) and is fourteenth in saves per game (12.90). Gately leads the Ivy League in assists per game (2.20) while Ben Friedman tops the league in saves per game (13.44). Head Coach Andy Shay is approaching his milestone of 200 career victories, standing at 199 wins.
Hofstra enters Tuesday’s matchup with a record of three wins and eight losses overall following a defeat by Drexel. The Pride was picked to finish fourth in the Colonial Athletic Association Preseason Poll, while Yale leads their all-time series ten to four.
UAlbany comes into Saturday’s contest after clinching the America East Regular Season Championship with a win over Vermont. The Great Danes hold an overall record of seven wins and four losses this season and are recognized for ranking sixth nationally in caused turnovers per game (10.36).
Looking ahead, Yale will conclude its regular season schedule by facing Brown on Saturday, Apr. 25.
