The Yale softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against Sacred Heart on March 25, with scores of 2-0 and 3-2. The defeats bring the Bulldogs’ season record to 8-17, while the Pioneers improve to 11-17.
These losses are significant as they mark another setback for Yale in their current season and highlight areas for improvement ahead of upcoming conference play.
In the first game, Sacred Heart took an early lead with a run-scoring single in the fourth inning and added another run in the fifth with a double. Sienna Reynolds and Ellie Joseph pitched six innings combined for Yale, allowing two runs and striking out five batters. Offensively, Demi Donahoe and Jane Littleton each had hits for Yale, while Ella Cross and Ella Gandolfo drew walks; Gandolfo also stole a base.
The second game saw Sacred Heart score first on an unearned run after a Yale error. They extended their lead in the third inning before Isabella Fortini tied it up for Yale with a two-run single in the fourth. However, Sacred Heart secured victory with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Emma Taylor pitched all six innings for Yale, giving up two earned runs and striking out seven batters. Fortini’s performance brought her season RBI total into double digits—she is now one of five Bulldogs to reach that milestone this year.
Looking ahead, Yale will resume play on Saturday, March 28, beginning a three-game series against Brown at DeWitt Family Stadium.
