The Yale softball team earned a split in its doubleheader against Columbia on April 11, rebounding from a shutout loss in the first game to secure a win in the second. After dropping the opener 6-0, Yale responded with a 6-2 victory, fueled by a five-run third inning.

This result moves Yale to an overall record of 12-24 and 4-10 in Ivy League play. Columbia now stands at 14-17 overall and holds a conference record of 6-5.

In the first game, Columbia built an early lead with four runs in the third inning, aided by two Yale errors. The Lions added to their advantage with an RBI double in the fourth and capped their scoring with a solo home run in the fifth.

The second game saw Columbia take an early lead with an RBI single. However, Yale answered back decisively when Ellie Joseph tied the score with a solo home run. Jane Littleton followed up by hitting her first career home run—a three-run shot—putting Yale ahead. Isabella Fortini contributed an RBI double as part of that five-run frame. The Bulldogs added another run on a bases-loaded fielder’s choice later in the game while holding off Columbia for the win.

Littleton finished game two going three-for-four at bat, driving in three runs and scoring once herself. Joseph pitched a complete game for her sixth win of the season and also hit her second career home run during this matchup. Ella Cross had two hits for Yale as well.

The series between Yale and Columbia is set to conclude on Sunday, April 12, with first pitch scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
