The Yale Bulldogs softball team ended their home-opening weekend with a split, defeating New Haven 13-3 after falling to Boston University 8-1 in a Sunday doubleheader.
Yale’s record now stands at 4-10 as the team prepares for the start of conference play. The Bulldogs currently lead their conference in stolen bases, triples, and hit batters.
In the first game against Boston University, the Terriers scored four runs in the third inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Camryn Lyons and an RBI double from Kyomi Apalit. Yale responded in the bottom of the third when Ava Kainrath reached on an error that allowed Demi Donahoe to score an unearned run. Boston University added runs in subsequent innings, including a sacrifice fly from Sophie Naivar and an RBI single by Megan Coyle, ultimately winning 8-1.
Elena Ohe had two hits in two at-bats for Yale. Ella Gandolfo went one-for-two with a walk. Donahoe scored her third run of the season. Pitchers Emma Taylor and Meredith Henderson combined for three strikeouts against Boston University.
In the second game against New Haven, Yale opened scoring with an RBI single from Ohe. The Bulldogs scored five runs in the second inning, capped by a bases-clearing triple from Ohe. Ellie Joseph, making her first career start as pitcher, hit her first collegiate home run—a two-run shot—in the third inning. Another five-run inning followed in the fourth, punctuated by Isabella Fortini’s bases-clearing double.
New Haven broke up Yale’s shutout with three runs in the fifth inning but could not overcome the deficit. Joseph pitched all five innings for Yale, marking her longest outing so far.
Three players—Ohe, Joseph, and Fortini—each drove in three or more runs during the win over New Haven. Libby Peoples recorded a hit and continues to lead Yale with a .412 batting average. Ohe now leads the team with seven RBIs this season.
Yale’s 13-run output is its highest since scoring 13 against Holy Cross on March 13, 2025.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to play Fairfield at DeWitt Family Stadium on Wednesday, March 11 at 4 p.m.
