Yale Bulldogs Women’s Rowing, ranked third nationally, secured the Doc Hosea Cup and retained the Connell Cup during their spring season opener on Mar. 29 at the Cooper River in New Jersey. The team recorded five victories against No. 8 Rutgers and No. 16 Penn before adding another five wins over Northeastern at the Doc Hosea Invitational.

The event saw Yale finish with a total of 33 points, placing ahead of several top-ranked programs including Virginia, Syracuse, Rutgers, Penn, and Northeastern. The Bulldogs also held onto the Connell Cup in their race against Penn for the first time since they last met in 2022.

“We have a lot of work to do,” said Will Porter, Friends of YWC Head Coach. “We need to find lineups in all our crews. It’s been a tough spring with fast rough water. It is taking us time to get up to speed.”

During races against Rutgers and Penn (with Syracuse also competing), Yale’s varsity four edged out Rutgers by half a second with a time of 7:24.5 while finishing well ahead of Penn by nearly fifteen seconds. The second varsity eight finished more than eleven seconds ahead of Rutgers and over fourteen seconds ahead of Penn. In varsity eight competition stroked by Anna Keating, Yale posted a winning time of 6:26.5—4.2 seconds faster than Rutgers.

Against Northeastern later that day, Yale’s varsity four finished twenty-six seconds ahead with a time of 7:20.8; similar margins were seen across other events as well.

Yale Bulldogs Women’s Rowing competes as part of the Ivy League and NCAA Division I according to the official website. The program is affiliated with Yale University athletics according to its official site and participates within both NCAA Division I competition in the Ivy League as well as membership in the Eastern Association of Women’s Rowing Colleges as reported by its official website. It operates as an intercollegiate sports program according to university sources based in New Haven, Connecticut as stated on its official page.

Looking forward, Yale will travel next to Saratoga for competition for the Cayuga Cup against Syracuse and Cornell on Apr. 4.
