The Yale women’s tennis team secured a 4-1 victory over Fordham on Sunday at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center, marking its third consecutive win of the season.
Fordham began the match by taking the doubles point. The pairing of Valerija Kargina and Lily Chitambar from Fordham defeated Yale’s Angela Huang and Erin Ha with a score of 6-4, while Paola Dalmonico and Catalina Padilla (Fordham) overcame Shyla Aggarwal and Julia Werdiger (Yale) 6-2. However, Yale’s Leena Friedman and Orly Ogilvy won their doubles match against Nevena Kolaveric and Julianne Nguyen (Fordham) 6-1.
In singles play, Yale responded strongly. Orly Ogilvy beat Nevena Kolaveric 6-4, 6-4. Leena Friedman defeated Valerija Kargina 6-3, 6-2. Shyla Aggarwal secured a win over Aya Matsunaga with scores of 6-2, 6-2, and Angela Huang prevailed against Lily Chitambar 6-3, 6-2. Two matches remained unfinished: Julia Werdiger (Yale) versus Paola Dalmonico (Fordham), which stood at 5-7, 6-3, 1-0; and Rachel Lee (Yale) against Julianne Nguyen (Fordham), paused at 6-4, 3-3.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to compete next at the ECAC Indoor Championships in Princeton from Friday, February 6 through Sunday, February 8.
