David Hill, the conductor of Yale Schola Cantorum and professor at the Yale School of Music and Institute of Sacred Music, will be concluding his tenure at Yale after the spring term. His final concert on campus will feature a performance of Bach’s Mass in B Minor on April 27, followed by a ten-day tour in the U.K. with Schola Cantorum and the period orchestra Juilliard415.

Throughout his time at Yale, Hill has made a significant impact on both students and audiences. ISM director, Martin Jean, praised Hill for his contributions, stating that he has helped prepare the next generation of leaders through his pedagogy. Hill himself expressed his fondness for his experience at Yale, saying, "I enjoyed every minute of my experience at Yale."

After leaving Yale, Hill plans to continue conducting and teaching but with a focus on reducing transatlantic travel. He will maintain his role as the music director of the Bach Choir and international chair in choral conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. Additionally, he will be affiliated with institutions such as the Royal Academy of Music in London, the Royal College of Organists, the Bournemouth Symphony, and the Leeds Philharmonic. Hill aims to have a more flexible schedule that allows him to conduct broadly in the U.S. and Europe, as well as pursue his passion for keyboard playing and spend time with his grandchildren.

Reflecting on his time at Yale, Hill highlighted various accomplishments, including performances of a diverse range of music and innovative works. One of his final performances will be Bach’s Mass in B Minor, a fitting choice as the Bach Choir, which Hill has conducted for 25 years, was formed to perform this masterpiece. The concert will take place on April 27 at Woolsey Hall and is free and open to the public. Those interested can also watch a video where Hill explains his decision to choose Bach’s Mass in B Minor for his final concert with Schola Cantorum.

In conclusion, David Hill's final performance conducting Bach's Mass in B Minor at Yale marks the end of a significant chapter in his career, as he looks ahead to new opportunities and endeavors beyond the university campus.
