Seven Yale scholars from various fields such as neuroscience, public policy, medicine, theater, and mathematics have been elected as new members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. This prestigious recognition highlights their significant contributions to their respective fields and their dedication to advancing knowledge and the common good.
The American Academy of Arts and Sciences announced the names of the newly elected members, including individuals from Yale University, on April 24. The academy, founded in 1780, aims to honor outstanding individuals and engage them in societal betterment.
Among the newly elected members from Yale is Anne L. Alstott, a distinguished professor at Yale Law School known for her work in public policy. Another notable member is Susan Baserga, a prominent figure in the fields of molecular biophysics and biochemistry at Yale School of Medicine.
Karin M. Reinisch, a respected professor conducting research in membrane trafficking and biology, is also among the accomplished Yale scholars elected to the academy. Tarell Alvin McCraney, a renowned playwright and professor at Yale, has been recognized for his contributions to the world of theater.
Furthermore, Anna Christina Nobre, a cognitive neuroscientist specializing in brain systems supporting cognition, and Hee Oh, an expert in mathematics, have also been elected as members. Marina Picciotto, a prominent figure in psychiatry studying complex behaviors, completes the group of Yale scholars honored by the academy.
The president of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, David W. Oxtoby, commended the new members for their achievements and encouraged them to contribute to addressing challenges and promoting the common good. The induction ceremony for the new members, which includes prominent figures like George Clooney and Tim Cook, will take place in September in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
