The latest issue of Reflections, a publication by the Yale Divinity School community, delves into the ethical implications of artificial intelligence (A.I.). The collection of writers pose questions and arguments that contribute to the broader conversation about A.I.'s ethical direction.
The new issue, titled "Ghost in the Machine: The Ethics of A.I.," addresses the unknown future of A.I. and its potential impact on the world. Despite the evolving conditions, the journal is based on the belief that it is crucial to address the technology's power now—its implications for faith, congregations, and human destiny.
According to Amara’s Law, “We tend to overestimate the effect of a technology in the short run and underestimate the effect in the long run.” However, this does not deter contributors from exploring arguments vital to A.I.'s ethical direction. As Allen Reynolds ‘15 M.Div. writes, “Technology is always a tool. We get to decide how we respond to A.I.”
Reflections is an online publication produced twice a year by YDS as a public service of the School. Each issue aims to bring theological insight into contemporary debates and extend the School’s mission to “foster the knowledge and love of God through scholarly engagement with Christian traditions in a global, multifaith context.”
