Yale University has announced the renaming of its Sustainable Venture Prize to the Planetary Solutions Prize, now sponsored by Yale Planetary Solutions. This change is part of Yale's commitment to finding innovative solutions for climate and sustainability challenges globally.
The funding for the prize has doubled from $25,000 to $50,000. The first-place winner will receive $35,000, while the second-place winner will be awarded $15,000. Stuart DeCew, Executive Director at the Yale Center for Business and the Environment, stated: “Each year, we witness a remarkable rise in the ambition of founders and the excellence of their ventures. There simply needs to be more than one financial award to support the breadth and depth of innovation in the student community.”
Yale Planetary Solutions is described as “the north star for the university’s efforts—generating discoveries and translating them into action and impact.” The organization supports environmental entrepreneurs with resources necessary to develop ventures addressing planetary challenges such as renewable energy and climate resilience.
The Planetary Solutions Prize remains a significant component of Startup Yale, an event showcasing entrepreneurial ideas from students, faculty, and alumni. Since 2009, this prize has helped launch startups impacting environmental issues.
The next Startup Yale event is scheduled for April 3-4, 2025. Further details about applications can be found on their website.
