Nyché T. Andrew, a rising senior at Yale College, has been awarded the 2024 Udall Undergraduate Scholarship from the Udall Foundation. Known traditionally as Skavaq Sivulliuqti, Andrew is pursuing a joint master’s and bachelor’s degree in political science along with a certificate in education studies.
The Udall Undergraduate Scholarship is a highly competitive program that identifies and supports future leaders in environmental, Tribal public policy, and health care fields. Andrew was one of 55 recipients chosen from 50 colleges and universities across the nation.
Andrew is a Yup’ik and Inupiaq Indigenous woman hailing from Anchorage, Alaska. She is an enrolled Tribal member of the Nome Eskimo Community, a shareholder for Calista Corporation, and a lineal descendant of Bering Straits Native Corporation. She plans to use her education to amplify her contributions to her people.
Her future plans include pursuing a juris doctorate degree and returning to Alaska to advocate for Indigenous education and Alaska’s unique tribal governance.
The Udall Undergraduate Scholarship pays tribute to the legacies of Morris K. Udall and Stewart L. Udall. Their careers significantly impacted Native American self-governance, health care, and the stewardship of public lands and natural resources.
