Yale University is convening thought leaders and organizations for a four-day summit in New York to explore and advance solutions to the global climate threat. The event will be held from September 24 to 27 at the Yale Club of New York City, coinciding with Climate Week NYC and a meeting of the UN General Assembly.

Hosted by Yale Planetary Solutions (YPS), a university-wide initiative created to address environmental threats, the summit will showcase the work of the Yale community on climate change and biodiversity loss. The opening day on Tuesday, September 24, will be livestreamed and feature comments by Yale President Maurie McInnis and Yale Provost Scott Strobel. Former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will participate in a "fireside discussion" on climate leadership.

Throughout the week, experts from various disciplines will discuss timely climate-related topics. This includes a conversation with Tom Steyer, an investor and business leader known for his advocacy for climate action.

Julie Zimmerman, Yale’s inaugural vice provost for planetary solutions, stated: "Our Yale @ Climate Week events provide an exciting opportunity for us to engage in this critical conversation with partners from throughout the region and around the world." She added that these events exemplify Yale's efforts in accelerating solutions to planetary challenges through science, engineering, social science, humanities, and arts.

Yale Planetary Solutions was established in 2020 to foster cross-disciplinary collaborations at Yale. It supports innovation with seed grants and programs for small-scale projects while promoting interdisciplinary collaborations among faculty, students, and staff. These efforts underscore universities' unique role in addressing climate change.
