The Yale Club of New Haven recognized 46 high school seniors from the Greater New Haven area during its annual Yale-Seton Book Award ceremony on October 9. The event took place at Davenport College, where students were selected by their schools for demonstrating "outstanding personal character and intellectual promise."

Each recipient received two books, one to keep and another to donate to their school's library. The books are funded by an endowment established by Fenmore R. Seton '38 and Phyllis Z. Seton.

Anjelica Gonzalez, a professor of biomedical engineering at Yale and Davenport's Head of College, welcomed the students and their families. She spoke about her role at Yale and her work as a scientist. Marta Moret '84 M.P.H., president of Urban Policy Strategies and Yale's former first lady, also addressed the guests, sharing insights from her early life in the South Bronx.

Elaine Piraino-Holevoet ’75 chaired the event, presenting awards alongside Moret to students like Snigtha Mohanraj from Engineering and Science University Interdistrict Magnet High School in West Haven.

After a group photo on the courtyard steps, five Yale College students shared their experiences with the honorees before they toured the campus and had lunch in Davenport.

The award winners included Stephanie Albert (Academy of Our Lady of Mercy/Lauralton Hall), Sophia Messina (Amity Regional High School), Hailey Muzzi (Ansonia High School), among others.

The ceremony was organized by Abby Klein, executive administrator of the Yale Club of New Haven, along with volunteers from the Book Award Committee. Financial support was provided by Yale’s Office of New Haven Affairs and the Office of the President.
