In a recent article published in "The Scholarly Kitchen," Daniel Dollar, associate university librarian for scholarly resources at Yale, discussed the objectives and accomplishments of Research4Life. Established in 2002, Research4Life aims to provide researchers, practitioners, and students in lower-income countries with online access to academic and professional peer-reviewed content. The initiative seeks to enhance teaching, research, and policymaking.

Yale University, along with Cornell University, is among the founding partners of Research4Life. They collaborate with five United Nations agencies, the International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers (STM), and over 200 international publishers and technology partners. Dollar serves as the co-chair of the organization's fundraising committee.

Dollar leads teams within Access Services, Assessment and User Experience Research, Preservation and Conservation Services, Resource Sharing, and Scholarly Communication and Collection Strategy at Yale Library. He stated that both Research4Life and Yale Library share a common vision: "to be a catalyst for individual and societal growth by ensuring broad access to the scholarly record and accelerating the creation of new knowledge." Both entities are also dedicated to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Research4Life's efforts have resulted in more than 11,800 local not-for-profit institutions across 125 eligible countries gaining access to an extensive collection of peer-reviewed scholarly content. This includes over 200,000 open and subscribed resources.
