The Yale School of Music (YSM) recently announced that several of its alumni have been nominated for the 2025 Grammy Awards. The nominations were revealed on November 8, and the winners will be announced on February 2, 2025.
Among the nominees is The Lorelei Ensemble, alongside composer Christopher Cerrone, who graduated with multiple degrees from YSM. They received a nomination in the "Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance" category for "Cerrone: Beaufort Scales." Kate Maroney, an alumna from the class of '06MM, is part of this ensemble.
The Skylark Vocal Ensemble also earned a nomination in the "Best Choral Performance" category for their work "Clear Voices in the Dark." Notable members include tenor Haitham Haidar and bass-baritone Andrew Padgett.
The Crossing received recognition in the same choral performance category for their album "OCHRE," which features contributions from conductor Kevin Vondrak and vocalists Matthew Cramer and James Reese. Caroline Shaw, another alumna, composed and performed on this album's title track.
Sō Percussion was nominated alongside Caroline Shaw in the "Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance" category for their piece "Rectangles and Circumstance." This group includes several YSM graduates such as Eric Cha-Beach, Adam Sliwinski, Jason Treuting, and Josh Quillen.
In addition to these groups, individual performers also garnered nominations. Countertenor Daniel Moody, soprano Molly Netter, and baritone Edward Vogel were recognized for their performance in "Handel: Israel in Egypt," under the best choral performance category. Percussionist Andy Akiho received two nominations: one for his solo work “Akiho: Longing” under “Best Classical Instrumental Solo,” and another for “Akiho: BeLonging” under “Best Classical Compendium.”
Other individual nominees include Edmund Milly for “Sheehan: Akathist,” Michael Chioldi for “Catán: Florencia En El Amazonas,” Edward Parks for “Moravec: The Shining,” Nadège Foofat with Garrick Zoeter for “Bespoke Songs,” David Lang for his composition titled "Lang: Composition as Explanation," Erica Brenner as a producer nominee under classical categories including works like Biber's Mystery Sonatas among others.
Lastly, John Adams was nominated in collaboration with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Los Angeles Master Chorale for his opera recording titled "Adams: Girls of the Golden West."
