Rosa DeLauro, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut's 3rd district, recently addressed several pressing issues through her social media posts. DeLauro, who has been serving since 1991 after succeeding Bruce Morrison, expressed her views on gun violence prevention and recent political actions by former President Trump.
On January 21, 2025, DeLauro reflected on a tragic event that occurred two years prior in Monterey Park, where a gun violence incident claimed the lives of 11 community members. She stated: "2 years ago, Monterey Park endured a heartbreaking tragedy, losing 11 members of its community to a senseless act of gun violence." As part of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, she reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for "common sense gun regulation in Congress."
The following day, January 22, 2025, DeLauro criticized former President Trump's decision to pardon certain individuals. She remarked: "President Trump’s decision to pardon these individuals does nothing to help Americans or bring down their cost of living. In fact, it unleashes a torrent of convicted violent criminals into our streets."
In another post on the same day, she commented on the events of January 6th at the Capitol. DeLauro emphasized her presence during the incident and condemned any minimization of the rioters' actions: "I was here on January 6th – any insinuation that the rioters who assaulted the Capitol that day were anything less than violent offenders is an insult to the brave police officers and Capitol staff who put their lives on the line to defend our democracy."
