Rosa DeLauro, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut's 3rd district since 1991, has expressed her concerns and viewpoints on several issues through recent tweets. DeLauro, who was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1943 and graduated from Marymount College, Tarrytown in 1964 with a BA, has been vocal about social security and veterans' affairs.
On March 10, 2025, DeLauro stated her firm stance against President Trump's policies regarding Social Security. She emphasized the need to protect seniors by advocating for legislative measures such as the Keeping Our Field Offices Open Act and the Protecting Americans’ Social Security Data Act. "I will not stand idle and watch President Trump weaken Social Security."
Later that day, she paid tribute to Harriet Tubman by acknowledging her legacy of courage and leadership. DeLauro highlighted Tubman's role in leading hundreds of slaves to freedom, urging people to remember and celebrate her strength and bravery. "Today we honor the legacy of Harriet Tubman."
In another tweet on March 10, 2025, DeLauro criticized President Trump's approach towards America's veterans. She warned that cutting 80,000 staff from the VA would lead to increased wait times at hospitals and deny education opportunities to thousands of veterans who rely on health care, disability services, student loans, among other services provided by the VA. "Trump is making a direct assault on America’s veterans."
