Glamour followed 8 women 28 days postpartum to show the true impact of the first month and the need for paid family and medical leave

Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03), in conjunction with Glamour and Paid Leave for All, hosted a roundtable spotlighting the stories of Glamour’s ’28 Days’ storytellers. To show the true impact of that first month of a child’s life, Glamour followed eight women through 28 days postpartum. Some had access to paid leave, others did not. Glamour told their stories to stress the need for paid family and medical leave in the U.S., and the importance of the country joining every other industrialized nation in enacting paid family and medical leave programs for its citizens. A highlight reel of the roundtable is available here.

“The U.S. is the only industrialized nation in the world without national paid family and medical leave, with a quarter of women returning to work just two weeks after giving birth. That is unacceptable,” said Congresswoman DeLauro. “House Democrats tried to at least fund just four weeks of paid leave – but unfortunately, the Senate did not act on this legislation.I am so grateful that Glamour decided to show the impact of what the first month is like for new mothers by following eight women for 28 days postpartum, and I am proud to join them and Paid Leave for All in the fight for paid family and medical leave. Let’s work together to pass the FAMILY Act and make this a political reality.”

"This was an incredible day and we're grateful to Congresswoman DeLauro for her leadership, yesterday and over years. We came monumentally close to finally passing paid leave in this country, and that momentum isn't slowing. Because of our partners and a movement, the growing number of champions in Congress, and new partnerships like Glamour, we're going to win this for all working families." – Dawn Huckelbridge, Director – Paid Leave for All.

“We at Glamour believe that strong storytelling can mobilize decision makers and create change. We saw that firsthand in DC as we brought the women of our 28 Days paid leave feature, led by executive editor Natasha Pearlman, to the White House and the Hill to continue to fight to pass paid leave in America. Their authentic and moving stories represent millions of people across the nation that know the time has come to make a change to paid leave. We are grateful for our partners, Paid Leave for All and Rep. DeLauro for their longtime commitment to the issue and look forward to passing paid leave” – Samantha Barry, editor in chief, Glamour
